I agree. The Volusia handles better than any cruiser I´ve ridden. It beat out the VTX 1300, Shadow Sabre, Kawasaki Vulcan, and Yamaha V-Stars, some costing over $3K more. It´s utterly amazing how sweet it handles, and how nimble it feels in spite of a pretty long wheelbase. While it may not have the last word on horsepower or displacement over other bikes, it certainly has an unbeatable combination of comfort, agility and guts. My buddy has a three month old Honda Shadow Sabre. He took one ride on my Volusia and has been depressed ever since! I never have a problem keeping up with him, or another buddy who has a VTX 1800 Retro, even over mountain passes.

Only thing to keep in mind that it´s got a gross carrying capasity of 450lbs with rider and gear, so 300 lb riders should only be carrying their gear and not additional passengers if they´re interested in safe riding.

On the highway, the Vol´s road manners are outstanding, showing only a little instability at speeds close to 90mph on stock tires. Changing out the rubber to Metzler cruiser tires shifts the Volusia´s already terrfic handling characteristics toward the sublime. Also the Metzler tires are substantially better than the stock rubber on wet pavement for riders who ride in the rain.

Short riders would do well to have floorboards installed. Floorboards, such as the Hac from planetcruiser.com put the riders feet out a wee bit which keeps your legs away from the air cleaner. They´re also a lot more comfy than pegs on long rides and look cool besides.

Safe riding!
