I just rode the KLR650 for a week in Costa Rica. The bike has nice road manners, but is too heavy in the dirt. 60K miles on this engine would be an anomoly, plus the water cooling adds another failure mode. In fact, the rental company in Costa Rica won´t buy the bike again as a rental because of the unreliability. For added effect, my bike failed on the trip due to a seal leak that let water into the oil. The bike had just been rebuilt at 25K miles. If XR is too tall and you don´t need the dirt ability, I would go with the DR650 Suzuki as a second choice. An oil cooler like the DR really adds to the reliability. joe |
