My XJR 1200 does exactly the same. Following much checking of connections etc. and much constructive advice from many I am of the opinion that the cause is overheating of the ignitor coil (sourde coil). Tomorrow I hope to acquire a replacement coil - once fitted I´ll advise if sucessful
