boiled brake fluid

I just bought a 2002 1100 Shadow Spirit and love it.

2 things:

1. The speedometer really starts buzzing as the rpms ramp up- is there an easy way to quiet that down?
2. One of the cables by the front brake loosened up a bit and (I later found out)was actually pressing down on the brake. The brake locked up and down by the wheel it smoked quite a bit. First the brake was locked then it became as looses a goose and didn´t work at all. A short time later it works again. I figure it boiled the fluid and worked again once it cooled down. Should I replace the fluid right away?

I love this bike- thanks for any suggestions you can give.
