New, used bike question

I recently bought a 2002 CBR 954 RR. The bike has about 8,000 miles on it. When I start the bike it runs kind of rough, almost sounds like it is missing a little but seems to run fine when warmed up. Is this normal? Also, I hear a very slight ticking sound when riding. I have been told it could be a valve problem and also have been told its normal. Can anyone help with advise? Thanks
