Hi, I have recently bought a bulldog which was a non runner due to it being left outside all of last winter. The starter motor was in a right state. Took it off and fitted a new set of brushes ( about £54) and it started first attempt. Look on youtube for advice on renovating a starter motor and they talk you through it. It is an afternoon job once you have the parts. An online PDF download of a BT 1100 workshop manual shows an exploded view of the starter motor so you can get the assembly order right.
All the best with the repair.
Martin
