My 81 has the original tank. According to the shop manual it is a 4.8 gallon tank which seems to be about right. Mine hits the reserve at 3.9 gal. which leaves a little less than a gallon for the reserve. I have never completly ran out of gas but I have pumped 4.6 gal. after flipping to the reserve.
