When you press the starter button, the switch diverts the power from the headlight to the starter. I carefully took the starter button switch apart and found the copper contacts had worn down flush to the plastic around it. I (carefully) ground away the plastic around the contacts with my dremel. This repaired the headlight and the intermitant starter problewm
