I just picked up an ´82 XL 185S and I love it! I am in UT and with turn signals and an inspection we can ride these enduro type bikes on the road (and Progressive will provide you insurance, for me it is $75 a year!). So far I find the 185 suitable for most city driving, but not freeway. Also I saw a sweet aftermarket exhaust for these old bikes, I think it was a Supertrapp. There is a video of it out there search Google.
