I have a 78 xs1100. I got it from a guy who was making a cafe racer. I just want to use the engine for another project. I would start but die when you release the starter button. I learned it was a bad ballast resister. Got another one but it doesn’t start at all now. No fire on any cylinders. Have power to both sides of both ignition coils. Do you think the pickup coils may have went bad? Could it be the t I box? I started it several times before changing out the ballast resister. I just found out you could plug both ballast resistor wires together and it would continue to run but would burn out coils. Could I have burnt them out from frequent starts trying to trouble shoot the problem? If kill switch or engine shutoff was bad would I have power to the coils?
