Dead cylinder

I bought a nice looking, yet abused 83 Maxim a couple of years ago. It gave decent service, but the cams went bad at 19,000 miles. I found an 82 Seca engine for it and put it in. The number one cylinder misses badly, to the point that it won´t idle, but as revs increase, the miss goes away. By 4,000 RPM all four are firing strong. I used my carbs, and it has good compression on all four cylinders. New plugs failed to help. Any suggestions ? Thanks !

Mike
