Good bike, bad starter

I have -82 xv,European model. I´v owned it for two years, it´s been a good bike except the starter, it´s totally *#!"!!!. The bike has only 56000 kilometres on the clock and in good shape.If you are going to buy this kind of bike, check that the starter is OK. Mine sounds like "rocks in the starter"
