Choke lever question

I feel really stupid asking this, but I just bought my first used bike, 550 seca 1982. Can anyone tell me about the choke. I´m not sure if it is opened or closed. It is a slide type under the horn button. To close it, should it be to the left or right? Thanks for any help.
