It´s an alarm system. There used to be a fiber optic cable stored in the toolbox that you could plug into the socket under a rubber flap that when you turned the ignition key in it it armed the alarm. Most Sabmags have long since lost that cable. It didn´t stand up well to the constant coiling and uncoiling.
