The CBX 550 was my very first bike and I put over 100K in it in 3 years. I rebuilt the engine finding no issues and the ticking you are referring to is unlikely to be anything but the valve tappets requiring adjustment. It is an interference engine so if the cam chain jumped even one tooth, the damage would be much more serious than a tick, so get on top of any cam chain issues now. As far as unsprung weight/brakes are concerned, the wheels on this bike, like all CBX´s and cx´s are beautiful But crazy heavy. The brakes are ok but feel wooden. The front suspension is weak as well so the best solution to all of this would be a complete front end off a cb600f1/f2/f3 (f3 had the best brakes), but then you will have to try to get a matching rear wheel in the back to match, so maybe f3 front end and f2 rear wheel because the width of the F3 grew a half inch and would be unlikely to fit the cbx. The only issues I ever had with my bike were the consistent speed wobbles around 60-80 kph; likely due to the heavy wheels, and the standard rectifier issues. Oh and l blew a main fuse once. I would kill to have one of them again though so consider yourself lucky and don´t forget to put in an upgraded and finally issue free cam chain tensioner.
