| Hi Steve, lucky you! These are great bikes, & I´ve had both the 500 & the 650. I managed to get my seat recovered by a local upholsterer (usually does classic cars etc) for about 30 UK pounds (15 - 20 dollars?). A local plastics company cut me a new screen using the old one as a pattern for 60pounds. The most expensive thing you might have to replaced is the stator, which is an engine-out job. Cam-chain tensioners are known to go too. I should perhaps add that I´m not careless or accident-prone, I have had my 650 for 20 years now, from new. Whilst there were quite a few GL500s in the UK, they never took off as well as they did in the US, where they were quite popular. Good luck, & good riding. |
