I got my Wing from the original owner with 30K + showing. It was in mint condition with both rear seat and optional tour box.I rode it to Deal´s Gap and hated it , the bike not the gap. But,it had a lot of potential !Well , as soon as i got back i knew what i wanted to do , so i lowered the front 2" and replaced the 19" front wheel with an 18" CB450C front wheel.Tremendous improvement in handling.I also installed Timken steering head bearings to replace the old notched ball bearings and races.Next was steel braided brake lines and clubman handlebars to top it off.DONE !The next thing was the old exhaust , replaced with MAC two into one with Vance & Hines tip from a GSXR750.Perfect fit with slight bending. Now the 10 to 1 compression snarls.Gearing was a problem until i changed the rear wheel from 16´ to 18´ with a rear from a "78 CX500 with a 130/90 x 18 Cheng-Shin tire.Close fit , but only bottoms out with the "BIG"girl on the back when you hit a big dip , solo´s OK .It lowered the engine speed at 60 mph from 5500 rpm down to a tolerable 4000.My next project is building/bending out a backrest from 1" aluminum flat bar purchased at Home Depot that will replace the grab bar on the stock seat. I also have some 55 watt fog lights that i got from Harbor Freight cheap ($8.98) and mounted them to the case gaurds with three piece clamps. Now i am installing a digital gauge panel with time, volts & temp on the inside of the fairing.Last but not least i´m changing the old stock H-4 headlight bulb with a new "Starlight" bulb,i was told it was a great improvement in lighting by about 40% by some Goldwinger´s at BikeNight.Stereo speakers will soon be mounted to the inside of the fairing too.I have other ideas too , but am interested in finding someone to grind a mid-range cam for me - - er´ the bike !I´ll gladly send pictures or parts #´s too if your ready to make you´re GL500 a real motorcycle.
