John, I feel you on the 6th gear thing but...like any touring bike made when the speed limit was 55, I dont think they intended on it cruising any faster than 60-65. I will tell you one thing that will help is by changing the main jet in the carburetors. THe stock jet is a 78...change it to a 90..then, since the engine is getting more gas, put a cold-air intake in lui of the stock airbox. What this will do is allow you to cruise comfortably at about 1,500 RPMĀ“s LESS than what it is now. Your mileage will not suffer (as that is what I love about mine) and you will get a little more low end power but mostly, like I said---you will be able to cruise at about 1,500 RPM less than what you are now.
