I just bought a fully loaded 82 silverwing interstate and would love to get some advice on maintenance and repair. I suppose I should start by telling you a little about the bike. FIRST QUESTION-Can I get a 6th gear!, and is the engine always going to be so buzzy? Now that I got my only complaints out of the way, what a great bike! I can not believe they stopped making this bike, all it needs is the 6th gear and some vibration damping for the engine and this would go down as one of the greatest bikes ever made, which is why I bought it. I can’t say enough about the ride quality, fuel mileage, element protection, storage space, easy of shifting, stability; sometimes I can’t believe it’s a “82!” My test ride was a 52 mile trip out and then back on some old Iowa hwys (I know the previous owner) and I felt like I had just got stated and that is when I knew I had to buy it. The bike has 37500 miles and it looks as if it was riding and put away, not beat, just riding. My goal is to ride and repair this bike for 2 years, then, turn it over to my 16 year “old” who will be 18. I figure with your help and a little elbow grease I could have it safe and for the most part, ready for him to ride to college and back. I’m glade to meet you all and I’m looking forward to leaning what I can from each of you.
