I had the same problem and the shop was unable to fix it. I eventually found the problem myself, it turned out that the carburettor was not fixed with an air-tight seal onto the cylinder. It was sucking air from outside rather than through the carburettor. I simply tightened the jubilee clip and it runs perfectly. I also think that in running so lean it had damaged the spark plugs which I later replaced.
