The 1982 XL500R is absolutely, in my opinion, a legend. My motorcycle purchased for $300 came in a Rubbermaid container, fortunately the engine was intact. The original owner wanted to rebuild the bike about eight years ago. After assembling it as a winter project without rebuilding the engine or carburetor, and the only investments being tires, grips, chain/sprocket, oil, and gas treatment, it fired right up. What an awesome motorcycle. It gets ridden daily during the summer and last winter was stored outdoors. This spring, after two kicks it fired right up. If you have the opportunity to purchase one of these legends do not pass it up. The bike is great for short commutes under 70 miles per hour up to an hour long. The gas mileage is great and best of all it’s a dual sport. The power of the 500c.c. single cylinder is more than enough to power over any hill on road or off. I am an owner of many motorcycles and the 1982 XL 500 R, by experience, has been an exciting adventure.
