Ian, check it out thoroughly. I bought an ´82 FLT back in April from a dealer and he cut me a hell of a deal ( even took a horse I had as down payment )But since then I have had problems with the electrical, clutch, brakes, tires and now the starter is shot. Not to mention that the ´82 FLT´s were mostly AMF´s and they are a %&#!¤ to find parts for. Does the bike that you are looking at have a gold Eagle on the front fender? It should have and it should say "COMEMERATIVE 1982" that was the year that Harley actually got the company back. Most of them have been swiped off of peoples bikes, mine still has it. A Shovel is a Shovel, it will leak oil and it will vibrate, ALOT, but your ol´ lady won´t have any problem with that, mine don´t. Good Luck!
