The only thing I would change (after all these years) is the length of mirror stalks. The front suspension is a weak point in the sense the air chambers can be over inflated and the seals will blow. The valve assembly at the bottom of each fork has a brass adjustment screw. These are prone to binding. If an owner or mechanic leans on these, it usually breaks off one side of the screw head. All engine case covers will need to be ordered from the factory in Japan through your Yamaha dealer (if you need any). The intake balancing system (reed valves, I believe) will corrode and bind over the years. The bike should feel like it goes to afterburners around six grand. If not, you probably need to have the intakes reworked. Valve adjustment is shim and bucket. I leave it to the dealer, since I never bought the special tools for the job. I´ve enjoyed my bike for 27 years now. Never have regretted buying it. |
