I´m the original owner of a 1983 XJ900RK. It has a sight glass on the right side of the engine case. There are a couple of witness marks on the case for low and high oil level. The differential unit has filler cap and oil is to be filled to the bottom of threads in that case. The transmission and engine sump share oil supply. So the sight glass does duty for both engine and transmission.
