1983 XJ750 motor shut off while riding

I was riding home from work yesterday and while going up a brick road the engine shut off. The dash was still lit up, but it would not start, and the turn signals and headlight were not working either. I turned off the key and started looking over wires to see if i could see anything wrong. After about 5 minutes it started and I rode it home. It almost seemed as if the kick stand dropped, however after it died and came to a complete stop, I put the kickstand down and then back up and it still would not start. I´m clueless....
