I bought mine (´83 GS 750 ES) about two months ago. I didn´t pay but $1000 for it, (Texas) and have since spent around $400 to get it to a point of reliability. The main problem is the charging system. I have burned two "universal" style voltage regulators ($19.95 each). I also had to replace the stator with a new one. As of today, I have a new voltage regulator ($126) (electrosport.com) that is supposed to be the one that ends the charging problems, according what I have read . To buy, or not to buy...that is the question (also spent $105 on a fantastic tuck and roll seat that I had custom made by a sewing wizard).

I have no regrets. I was saving for a new Harley Davidson Sportster, but the down payment I had set aside paid for this bike, and it will run circles around most new bikes, according to salesmen I´ve spoken with. I asked about trading it in on a new Katana and the salesman told me that I would be disappointed after coming off of mine and getting a new Katana. The comparison charts on this website say the same. I think I´ll keep mine forever. If you´re getting a good deal, I think you will do well to suffer the slings and arrows of getting and keeping the bike roadworthy. How else would an English teacher respond?
