Tachometer Cable

How trouble is it to replace a tachometer cable on one of these bikes? The one I have, has an ugly stump sticking out of the front valve cover that has been JB Welded by the looks and there is NO cable to the tachometer. Does the cable extended into the valve cover or is that a seperater piece ? If it is a seperate piece, what is it and how much is it ?

How much is a new tach cable ?
