I just rode the "Tail of the Dragon" up at Deals´ Gap on this thing and did fine. I hadn´t ridden in years so I wasn´t used to the bike and especially one that top heavy, but at speed it isn´t an issue. There´s 318 curves in 11 miles of road and they are all there, I counted every one on the way up but came back down too fast to count them again to double check my math! The bike handles superbly like a big gyroscope. I like everything about it with a few exceptions. The stock seat is a piece of crap! My butt was killing me after 40 miles (of a 600 mile trip) so I switched to a seargant seat and it was like night and day, what a relief. I think I´ll try a Corbin on my 2003 when I get it. What ****es me off about all this is that for $14,000 bucks plus, there should be absolutely nothing to be desired, ESPECIALLY something as basic as a saddle. Also it is very, very, top heavy at low speeds so if you plan to stop you´d better have it straight up when you do and aiming straight ahead. This is a 600 pound bike with a full tank and a bag and once it gets past about 10 degrees from vertical you had best be getting your leg out of the way because it IS going down. Put your back to it, squat down and pick it up that way. I tried it facing the bike and got it up with a grunt with one of my testicles falling to the ground and rolling down the Cherohala skyway. I´ll miss you "lefty"... Like I said I wasn´t used to that heavy a bike. I was an enduro rider on bikes I could jerk around and rawhide. This and the 2002 I ride are the same bike as far as feel goes. This bike is one you can ride in the woods as well as get on the thing and ride it to Florida or Colorado like a Goldwing and be just as comfortable, it really does do it all and do it well. Get one, swap seats, fill it up and you won´t want to get off of it! |
