Purchase 2006 HD VRSCR Street Rod.

I am considering buying a black 2006 HD VRSCR Street Rod this weekend (Saturday, October 10th, Thanksgiving 2009). I live near Toronto, Canada. The bike has 12000 miles (a little high for me). Asking price is $13,000 Canadian. I have not seen very many of these available. I would also like to buy a 2006 HD Sportster Roadster as well (upright riding position, tach and double front disc brakes). I saw some near perfect examples at Destination Daytona this year.

I actually own 4 other motorcycles as well [2000 HD Sportster, 2003 Buell Blast, 2005 Honda CBR1000RR5, 2009 Triumph Bonneville Black (my favourite)].

My question concerns what changed from the 2006 to the 2007 model year? Is there any reason to try and find a 2007 instead (the last year it was manufactured)?

I particularly like the upright riding position (pegs directly below the rider rather than forward) and smaller rear tyre than current VRODS. I would like to change the exhaust system to something smaller (less ugly and obtrusive) and made from stainless material if available.

Cycle Canada Magazine stated this year that the VROD motor is probably the best motorcycle engine currently manufactured.

I am an expert mechanic and amateur engineer. My bikes are set up perfectly (hundreds of hours of tinkering, factory shop manuals, Mobil 1, best oil filters, etc, unspoiled, without a lot of burdensome accessories. I owned a motorcycle shop for 6 years but defy anyone to make a reasonable profit operating one. Everyone connected with it (manufacturers, banks, employees) made a good living except the owner, me. However, that´s another story.

Thanks for any knowledgeable replies.

Sincerely,

Richard JONES
