New Owner, again!

Just got an 81 gpz from a friend. He bought it as a replacement part bike but quickly figured out that the 81 model is not compatible with the 84. The bike hasn´t run in several years and will definetly need a major overall. just not sure where to begin. I am a novice to motorcycle repair and havent owned a gpz in almost 20 years. But I am considering either a long term project or selling off for parts. Anyway, nice to see others out here with love for the same.
