The IC regulator is normally refered to as the rectifier. It controls the output from the alternator. It´s located behind the left hand side panel. In order to test it I´d suggest getting a multimeter (very cheap) and a haynes manual for the 550 Kawasakis. The procedure is quite simple if you follow their guidelines. I don´t know how much these cost, but as it´s a Kwaka and there are so many 400, 500 and 550 models about using the same components it should be much less than say a Honda. The throttle is likely to be the cables being dry. I´ve found in past experience it´s quicker and more reliable to replace them. If there is anything at the carb end it´s probably going to be the return springs, but this is fairly unlikely. Do the cables first, it´s a more probable bet. If you want to be sure. Lube the sleeves and work the throttle for a while to see if it starts to loosen. If yes, get new ones. Don´t forget that the old Kwakas were heavy to work even when new so take that into account. Hope these help Darren |
