the guy at the local yamaha dealership told me his maxim took 2.9 quarts of oil on a change with filter which makes sense because it´s stamped on the engine 2500 cc´s and i´m sure 400 cc´s will be needed to fill the filter container. He also told me to use Yamalube 20-40, and if i wanted to go synthetic, to use the hondaline brand. I´m sure any motorcycle specific oil you have at your local auto store will work just fine, they may not carry the filter though.
