| http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx , has an exploded view of the starter motor. Undo the battery then the nut that holds the power cable to the starter. then take the 2 bolts from the end and lift up slightly and pull in out. loosen the 2nd nut on the power stud, its easier when its together. then take out the long screws that hold the starter together. pull just the end cap off, the brush plate will come with it. replace the brushes. when putting it back together put the brush plate on the armature first other wise you won´t be able to get the brushes around the end. put it together then reinstall. it´s really pretty simple. and as far as the manual goes there is so much more info about maintanence, specs and simple checks that its well worth the money. Remember these bike are over 20 years old if there isn´t something wrong today there might be tomarrow. but then I buy one for every vehicle I own, mostly because I never seam to buy any with the original owners manual, and I´ve needed them all at one time or another. but Matthew you need help and that´s why were here.
