| totalmotorcycle.com buyers guide says UMG Says: Heavy, awkward four that was a bit off the pace but lasted for reasonable mileages. Camchain and tensioner usually went first, followed by the valves and pistons. Mileages varied greatly, although few managed more than 75 thou and most were in trouble by 40k. from this I would check the Camchain and tensioner because that would defently throw off the timing . I would also check the valves and the compression. That should tell you if there is a problem with the rings. It doesn´t sound like thats the problem but it never hurts too check. Also you might want to check the diaphrams on your carbs If their not new they are probably 20+ years old. If you still think it might electrics there are some tests YOU can perform in the Haynes manual. Clymer has a manaul for your maxim and the 750 engines are the same in both bikes. Hope this helps. |
