I bought a Sanglas 500 S2 in Johannesburg back in 1980. It was red and black with mag wheels. Great bike, but virtually unknown in South Africa, with one dealer (who also sold Laverda). I rode it to Durban on two occasions (1,300 Km round trip). Vibrations rendered the rear view mirrors almost useless. Vibes were at a minimum at a speed of 110 kph (which at the time was over the national speed limit of 90 kph). It was easy to maintain and pretty reliable, except for a period when the starter wouldn´t work. Kick starting was simple (except that the kick start was on the left side): Get it on its compression stroke, hold the valve lifter, then stand on the kick start and at the same time release the valve lifter. Once I didn´t get it right, and the bike sent my left knee smashing switches against the handlebar! The starter problem was incorrect earthing, and did not require major expense.
