To add to the problem, I noticed today when I spun around the block that the acceleration in first gear sucked. It would take me a few seconds to get going whereas before it was zippy.

gives me the impression that I might be running on one cyl. Is it possible that it kicks in in higher gear?

it was running fine a few days ago, since then a mechanic replaced the petcock, could it have been caused by this?

any hints from anyone would help
