Knocking coming from top end of motor.

Yes I just purchased a 1980 yamaha 1100 and it has a knocking sound coming from the top of the motor, I´m thinking its something mear or to do with the cams. if anyone has encountered this before and has any wisdom they can share with me on it I´d sure appreciate it.
