hello fellow harley owners ; I just bought my first harley and it´s a 1979 ironhead xls or at least I think that´s what it is _the vin number is 4e32849h9 if I read the info rite it´s a xls roadster _ is this rite? I bought the bike about two weeks ago and it was running perfect _ like a brand new bike _ I took it out for a ride just before dark and when I got home I shut it off for a min and when I went to start it back the bike just made a clicking noise as if the battery was to low to start the bike . Just like as if it had a bad connection so I went over the cables to the battery and found that they were loose so I tightened them down good and went over the rest of the wiring and found a few other bad/loose connections and fixed those but it still didn´t fix the problem ´ finally after cussing like a saylor and looking over the bike again I found that the double wire that goes to the front bolt on the generator was broken into so I took the metal end off out from under the nut and stripped both of the wires back that was connected and twisted them together wrapped them around the bolt and tightened the nut down on top ; had to replace the plugs because I fouled the first ones out trying to start the bike and pushed it off and it started right up and ran great for about an hour or so but when I shut it down and tries to restart I still have no charge in the battery so I started asking around and found out that I might need to polorize the generator so dumb me I let a guy explain it to me briefly over the phone and I took a wire and hooked it to the positive on the battery and touched the other end to the front bolt on the genorator and when I couldn´t tell a difference I touched the wire to the back bolt and still no difference _ no one told me that I was supposed to remove the wire first and now it has drained the battery flat dead. Did I mess up as bad as I think I did ? What can I do now? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!
