just bought a 79 honda cx500 yesterday and supposedly had bad starter but i got to looking and starter gear doesnt kick out. And doesnt look like it was supposed to so i call up honda and they give me a long list of parts i need that rack up to $400. I cant find a scematic on the starter system online. Oh i just thought of something else too. i can stick my finger in the starter hole and turn the gear and i feel resistence one way the way the starter is turning. but i put the starter on and it just spins. hmm looks like ill have to tear it down (which i dont look forward to) just to find out exactly what is going on. I did manage to pull start the bike yesterday but it was not running so hot. Idled high and would not take gas. If the thing would start with the starter it would make this alot easier. Does anyone have some of these parts lying around and maybe a manual (or really helpful wise tail)they would let go cheap. Can the starter just not be turning fast enough to engage the clutch? Really dont want to tear this down needlessly. Any help would be appreciated. My email is tireman_wiz@yahoo.com. thanks for your time
