I have owned quite few motorcycles and have installed twin cylinder snowmobile engines in two older dirt bike frames. (CZ motocrossers, about 1972-1976 vintage.) Used the variable snowmobile clutch and converter assemblies for power transmission.

The latest one has a Polaris TX 440 free air engine. It is very fast up to about 80 mph. Am hoping to use a 700 or 800 VES Polaris engine if I do another.

However, I rode a Suzuki Madura 1200 when they first came out and loved it. Have wanted one ever since then. Now that they are cheap enough for me to be able to afford one, I don´t know If I could afford to feed it on the $2.00/gal gasoline of today. I have heard that they only get about 25 mpg highway. Is this true? If not please let me know what you get on yours. I´d surely like to buy one, but I´d also like to be able to afford to ride it.

Also, are they a good reliable bike or are they prone to require a lot of maintenance?
