*primary chain drive sounds like it´s either out of adjustment(not tightness, but alignment) or needs a new shoe. shearing the key though could indicate some binding of the transmission. Recommend opening primary cover and replacing chain and shoe, while its open, roll transmission shaft through all gears and be sure there is no binding
