Cooper Take off left saddle bag then left side cover. Starter relay is one inch square component with 5 pin connecting plug going into the bottom of it. Change it out to see if that is your starting issue. The only part on the bike that is cheap enough to change just to see if that was it. Every thing else i would test as per manual. The other thing under the left side cover is the main breaker. If you are riding along on a hot day and the whole bike shuts down[ motor gauges etc.] then it is most often that main breaker beside the starter relay. Also reasonably priced. It is smaller than the relay and has to threaded peices coming out of it to connect wires to. I use the harley manual that says FLT/FXR 1980 to1983. I see on ebay a company is selling FLT 1980/81 but i would go to one that includes 1982 because as i have worked through this bike i have found many things that were different in 82 than 81. Sorry I haave not seen the Clymer or Haynes so I can not comment. The only whoops that i can find in the HD manual is that there is no mention of the throw out bearing for the clutch which is the first thing that went on my bike .Len |
