Hi Folks,

I don´t know too much about motorcycles and recently graduated the safety licensing program through the B.C. Safety Council in Richmond, B.C. Canada. I took the road test last month and passed without issue. I know I want a Harley and will be taking courses in bike mechanics, but don´t know too much about the different models etc... I went into Trev Deeley Motorsports and they recommended I start off with a 2004 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200. I´m just confused for I remember the 883´s were more of a womens bike, but many say for a starter bike for a male, the 1200cc is the way to go. Also, the bike is 14,000 Canadian dollars and they told me there´s no room to play on pricing for Harley holds their value. I don´t want to get too drastic in price for I´m a first time rider/buyer and I would like to work my way up. I would prefer not to go used and this is why I´m dealing with a new bike through Deeley.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I´ll be financing the bike, but once I know more about Harleys, bikes in general etc... I´ll end up trading it in for a better make/model down the road.

Any reading material such as published books I can order through Chapters or any newsgroups people may know of, I would appreciate the information for I´m a newbie who wants to get more into the motorcycle concepts and find out more about the mechanics and types of bikes.

I appreciate all feedback. It´s 1:30am in the morning and I´m not too sure how I would get back to this area, but if you would CC a copy of your reply to my email listed above, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Shane Escher
