Experiences with the 750ES |

Hi, I bought my GSX750ES this spring. It is my first motorcycle, and I bought it because it was cheap to buy and insure. After 5000 km on the bik since 1st of july, I can say the bike handles quite well. It is reasonably fast and comfortable. At speeds above 140 km/h (where you normally don´t ride :) ) the wind can be uncomfortable due to the half fairing. The brakes are NOT very imposing, but I suspect/hope it is caused by worn front discs on my bike. During the summer, I have also discovered that the gsx750es is fairly easy to repair and maintain. My bike had not been in use for years, and there were some problems in addition to normal maintenance. I had problems with the cam chain tensioner, right front calipper, rattling noises in the fairing, faulty air filter +++ Most problems were easily solved by dismantling/cleaning/lubricating/assembling. Some pecularities I discovered though. A CLASSIC problem with these bikes is "jerky" running at constant, high, speed. This is normally caused by turbulence around the air-intake due to the large gap between the seat and fuel tank!! To get rid of the problem, make sure the tank and seat is seated correctly, and that you have a clean and healthy air filter. I also had problems with erratic firing on rainy days and a tachometer going haywire at rpm´s above 6500. The cause of both of these problems turned out to be a material fatigue in a connector pin in the ignition unit. I soldered the pin and the problems were gone. It can be difficult to find a suitable workshop manual for these bikes. If you don´t want to throw away a lot of money on the original suzuki manual, you can use Haynes manual for GS/GSX550 4-valve Fours. GSX550ES is quite similar as long as you stay away from the carburettors. This manual is a lot cheaper and easier to find. A tip for you who are interested in buying a GSX750ES: Make sure the 2nd. gear is ok. It is extremely common that the bike jumps out of 2nd. gear. On my bike this has not been a problem. But when a seller says:"It is just a faulty pinion. Easy to fix.", I say *@#$5*£¤. I am convinced that it is a LOT of work. Now I wonder if anyone can give me some tips on my bike. First, what is the correct valve-clearances on gsx750es? Second, I have a rattling noise from the enginge/gearbox assembly at idle speed with cold engine. The noise does not disappear when I use the clutch. It is a cosmetic problem, but if I can get advice on how to get rid of it, I will be happy. Third, When turning at low speed (typically "doing the 8"), the handlebars are vibrating. I can not feel slack whether in the steering head nor swinging arm. What can this be?
