Not bad for a first bike, its cheap & fun. excellent handling, though vibrates incessently (quite annoying). Starts first kick with choke when cold. Plagued with minor problems, eg, brittle plastics, rusting screws, vibrating mirrors, battery not charging, rotting clutch adjuster, etc but what do you expect from a 16 yr old bike! Rear shock has softened now, on maximum preload setting, very vague and abit wobbly, front shocks are new so handling is almost excellent. Engine rattles, & is very loud at high revs, needs a bottom end rebuild, but still runs great for a 50 000km 2-stroke. Expect a good one to beat the latest CBR250RR´s at the lights, plenty of clutch slip required, though it doesn´t beat the ZX2C´s drag, but accelerates at the same rate. Wheelies require too much clutch abuse to be fun. Stoppies are **** easy as the twin discs & calipers were well ahead of their time and the bike is only 130kg dry. Not a bad buy for $Aus2000 but your better of buying a $Aus4500 4-stroke CBR or ZX2C & spend **** all on servicing them then spend $Aus2000 on a RG, cause you´ll need 2 grand for engine rebuilds & 2-stroke oil. Although a good tuner could maybe get 50+ hp out of the old RG, but whats the point when you can buy a cheap RGV for $Aus3000 & get 60hp stock. Cheap fun bike but as i pointed out there are better alternatives out there unless you live East Asia. |
