Hi there. I own a 1985 kawasaki 454en ltd. This is my first bike. befor I got it had been garaged for about 9 yrs. It´s in pretty good shape and after some TLC, new plugs, and cleaning the carbs it was running like new. I put probably 50-60 miles on it (real short runs in town speed) about a week ago I was was riding and it started to dog out on me then it died. I tried to restart it and my starter was siezed as my bike has no kick start I clutch started is and it was running ruff at low RPM´s at high RPM´s it runs fine. I had my starter rebuilt. and threw it in. Now when I hit the starter button I can hear the starter spinning but it does not engage. the repair shop said the spline on the starter was in great shape so I figure it has to be in the case some where. I know there is a clutch mechanism that at operating speeds disconnects from the starter. my problem is that there are about 10 bolts that hold the case cover on, after removing these I still can´t get the cover off. There is also a center bolt that has it´s own plastic cover on the case cover. So do I need to just pry the cover off or am I not seeing something and if I loosen the center bolt, What exactly am I monkeying with? also I can still clutch start the bike but when I squeeze the clutch it seems like there is still drag on the bike almost like the clutches are not lettin go all the way. Is this a completely diffrent problem or is it tied into the clutching form the starter? Aigain this all pretty new to me so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated
