I have a 1984 FLHTC and you are correct. Mid year 1984 Harley changed from the old style dry primary clutch system to the newer wet-style. Along with that change the frame was also changed. You just have to be very careful what you buy and make sure that it will fit. I was able to adapt a 1987 style OEM seat to my bike but it cost a lot. Of course I used parts from HD dealer. Sadly there is not a lot of after market parts for the 84-86 models
