You need to be careful not to screw up the handling by putting on the right front end.I have an 84 which I purchased used with a 91 softail custom front end and it worked but not as good as it needs to be.With the longer fork tubes and raked triple trees of the softail it was too light on the front and not enough trail.I corrected the problem by installing custom made billet triple trees [with the correct offset and 0 degrees rake],shortening the tubes 2 inches, and installing race tech cartridge emulators while I was there.Hope this helps
