The 1985 frame will accept any forwards for the Softail of the same era if you drill and tap another hole on the right (brake) side. The standard forwards only use one hole, the blank hole is marked but not drilled. You can retain the master cylinder by cutting your existing mounting plate or getting the separate plate from the 86 FXWG and later Softail. Alternatively buy forwards with integral cylinder.
