i own a -82 xs and had something of a similar problem, after riding it would not stop reving when in neutral. we changed all the seals in the belive that something was sucking air, but nothing helped.

the solution was to simply turn down the gasflow, nothing else helped.

i have since talked to others that own similar machines andn the problem seem quite usuall and no one knows of any other solution.
